A Small Furry Prayer: Dog Rescue and the Meaning of LifeA Small Furry Prayer: Dog Rescue and the Meaning of Life by Steven Kotler

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Initially, even before receiving the book, I didn't think this was the type of book I'd normally read. I actually have allergies to animals and a phobia, I must admit. Also, I haven't grown up in a family that considered pets a priority in life. However, I choose to remain open and want to be able to gain new experiences in life, so I opted to choose this book and was fortunate enough to win a copy.

Well, I was pleasantly surprised! This author is certainly deep, creative, honest, and funny all in one. This book was not just about dogs. I learned some USA history; history of animal domestication, protection, and ownership; and strangely enough how human nature compares with that of dogs. I had never considered a dog other than just that, a dog! But this book brought a new perspective and not just the author's opinions, but research. Could dogs actually be altruistic in nature, do they have feelings and emotions like humans.

I enjoyed this book. It made sense to me. Maybe this is why dogs are considered man's best friend, because they understand, they're intuitive. I'm glad I read this book!

The weekend's in sight

I'm really glad the work week is almost over, I'm pooped physically but mentally I feel so much joy this week! Life is good, I have much to be grateful for and joy is there, you just have to grab it.

I just finished reading a great book this week: The Noticer by Andy Andrews. I really like his thought patterns and the encouragement that he provides in his books.

Wouldn't it be great to just read for as long as we want, all day and night if we wanted. But of course, for short times in between, we could stop to watch an old western or black and white movie!!! Yes, that's how life should be lived. And then I woke up!!!!

Well tomorrow is my birthday and I just came in from doing what I do every year for myself at birthday time: massage and facial. Earlier in the day I had acupunture done at the Naturopath. So you see, today WAS about me!!! I'm glad to be here for another birthday and basically I'm healthy; just a few minor things to deal with, I hope! I like that I am drawing closer to God again. He is my rock and my fortress!

Book Review:  The Vigilante's Bride by Yvonne Harris

I really enjoyed this book! It takes place in the 'western' 'cowboy' era and has a Christian foundation. It is good, wholesome, clean reading, and the story was easy to follow, romantic, rustic, and historical, all rolled into one interest keeping story. I look forward to reading other books by Yvonne Harris.

Thanks to the Author and Publisher for sending me a copy of this book and giving me the opportunity to become acquainted with a new author, as well as the chance to review it and share my thoughts!   Rating: ( )
Book Review : Maternity Rolls: Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Disability by Heather Kuttai

I have just finished reading Maternity Rolls and found it to be story of honesty, faith, coping, trials, confrontation, and love. If we too are honest with ourselves, we've always wanted to know just how it is that a disabled person functions and just gets through life. Unless having experienced a similar situation, none of us could imagine what it would be like for a 6 year old girl and her family to face the struggles after experiencing a life altering accident and living your life in a wheelchair.

I thank Ms. Kuttai for this very frank insight into her life, her thoughts, her pain and frustrations, as well as the confidence, the self learning, assertiveness, love, and success as a woman, mother, wife, and athlete. I personally have gained insights into the life of a disabled woman. Our society obviously has a long way to go in terms of equality, so kudos to Ms. Kuttai for this enlightenment.

Thanks also to Fernwood Publishing for providing this book for review.    Rating:  ( )
